Unit 1 Reflection
After completing my Curated Source Collection, I think the quality of my three sources chosen were pretty good because it was relevant to our bigger topic and also is relevant to our current generations. There were 2 sources that were similar in genre since they were both articles but the difference between the two was that one was more informational, giving facts, and the other was a research article where they found data and incorporated it into their writing. In 5 Ways Technology Transforms Writing Instruction: From Instant Gratification to Iteration, it was mentioned that "only 29% of students revise their essays at least once before turning them in." I agree that there are low percentages due to the inconvenience of editing on paper, compared to editing online.
I used technology to enhance my project by incorporating different formats like articles and videos to show how the evolution of technology has allowed us to display writing in different ways. Articles are a great way to list information and display data. With the informational article, 5 Ways Technology Transforms Writing Instruction: From Instant Gratification to Iteration, it provided a good way to inform people, more specifically teachers and professors, of ways that technology has transformed writing instruction and how they can invoke greater participation from their students. The video regarding The Technology of Writing: From Stone Tablets to Tablet Devices provided a means for those who like listening instead of reading to learn about how technology has affected where you read. For How Do Tech Tools Affect the Way Students Write, it served as a research article by using statistical data to back up claims such as 68% of teachers who took the survey 'report that digital tools make their students more likely to take short cuts' while another 48% 'reported that the tools make students write quickly and carelessly.'
I think the quality of my sources are still pretty good because it is very relevant to our bigger conversation of writing and technology. Some holes I see in the conversation where I would insert my own future research is more on how it has changed in a video format instead of a scholarly article. I think a video format would be more interesting to people of all ages and more specifically, I believe it is important to teach the younger generations how everything has changed and how they can be active in also developing technology to further evolve the way we write.
I don't see myself using any of these sources for the next two units.
