2-1-18 Surveys/Polls/Quizzes

The survey/quiz/poll I chose to take was 'Company Culture Assessment'. I chose this of all possible surveys, quizzes and polls that exist because I am currently a student in the Whitman School of Management and I ultimately have an interest in business and knowing how I fit in. I was curious as to whether I would be more in favor of collaborating, competing, controlling or creating. I also found the results interesting when compared to the rest of my class, MGT248.

Since all the students in MGT248, Management 248, one would expect that the results would lean towards competing because that is the environment we are surrounded by. Since entering freshman year, those accepted into Syracuse University and Whitman specifically, had to take a quiz which would ultimately decide which house they belonged to. These four houses were for the students to compete to get the most points through attendance of specific events hosted or speaker events. Additionally, adding on to the competitive environment Whitman students are in, most Whitman classes are graded based off having a certain percentage getting A’s and once that percentage has been met, everyone else’s grade is curved down.

While I had a 12.5 in collaborate and compete, 10.94 in control and 14.06 in create, the average for the class was 15.86  in collaborate, 9.14 in compete, 10.92 in control and 14.08 in create. I am quite similar with the rest of my classmates and I think this is due to the what we’ve all learned at the time and as a class, we don’t feel the competitive atmosphere as we spend everyday together through our block courses and are friends amongst each other.
